The Mission
Sunflowers Against Sexual Assault (SASA) seeks to promote and advocate for a future without sexual violence while actively working to reshape the societal mindset from one that blames victims to one that supports survivors by using the unique and empowering metaphor of the sunflower.
The Metaphor
Since 2017, we have used sunflowers as an empowering metaphor for survivors. Sunflowers are nature's strongest plant, with the ability to
SURVIVE, THRIVE, and BLOOM
even through the toughest droughts. We thought this perfectly described the resiliency of survivors, and have been using this metaphor ever since.
